モンキーキッド (“Monkey Kid”) is the Japanese dub of Monkie Kid that aired on TV Tokyo and now airs on YouTube.[1] The dub is produced by IYUNO Media Group Japan.[2]

Trivia[]
- Seasons 1 and 2 include an extended version of the opening sequence, used in the credits.
- Instead of using the preexisting Japanese names of the Journey to the West cast, this dub keeps almost all English names, with them being written in katakana.[3]
- The semi-exception to this is Princess Iron Fan, whose name is "Purinsesu Ōgi" (Princess Fan), whose usual Japanese name is "Tetsusenkōshu" (鉄扇公主, "Iron Fan Princess"). [4]
- Despite all of the pilgrims being referred to with the Japanese pronunciation of the characters used to spell their names (Zhu Bajie to Cho Hakkai, etc), Monkey King is almost never referred to as "Son Goku" (孫悟空), only ever being called Monkīkingu (モンキーキング), even in scenes where he is specifically called Sun Wukong.
- The only exception to this is in "Amnesia Rules" where "Son Goku" is used for the first time.
- Ne Zha and Chang'e's names are translated as "Naja" and "Changa" (ナジャ and チャンガ) despite the usual Japanese pronunciations being "Nata" or "Nataku" and "Jōga" (哪吒/なた or ナタク and 嫦娥/じょうが).[5] [6]
- Season 1 episodes would end with a short quiz sequence, accompanied by the minifigure versions of the Monkie Kids answering a question and then briefly speaking on the episodes events.
- "Impossible Delivery" and "Skeleton Key", as paired episodes, instead end with Red Son and Princess Iron Fan doing the segment.
- From "Monkie Kid: A Hero is Born" to "Revenge of the Spider Queen" each episode would end with a next episode preview sequence, usually narrated by MK and whichever character is most active within the next episode.
- This is the one of only dubs in which MK and Red Son aren't played by male actors, instead being voiced by actress' Emiri Katō and Megumi Han, respectively.
