“The 100-Eyed Demon. It's taken over this whole section of the pagoda.”
Macaque[src]

The 100-Eyed Demon was a centipede demon that was imprisoned in the Celestial Pagoda.

History[]

Into the Pagoda[]

At a certain point in time, Li Jing managed to imprison the 100-Eyed Demon inside the Celestial Pagoda. Once trapped inside, the demon took control of the prison area of the pagoda, delving deep into the memories of all the captives held within its walls. The captives were forced to relive their memories. When the Monkie Kids and Monkey King willingly entered the pagoda in search of the yellow Color Stone, the demon used its extra eyes to spy on them. The 100-Eyed Demon launched an attack on the Monkie Kids and Monkey King, invading their minds and forcing them to confront their buried memories. For Monkey King, the demon made him relive the intense battle he had with Macaque. MK, on the other hand, was made to face a series of memories until he encountered his own inner self, taking the form of Lady Bone Demon.

Monkey King and Macaque came to the rescue of the Monkie Kids, standing against the 100-Eyed Demon in a fierce battle. The demon, infuriated by their interference, unleashed its eye projectiles, only to have them destroyed by the Monkie Kids and Macaque. Meanwhile, Monkey King engaged in a one-on-one combat with the 100-Eyed Demon, ultimately emerging victorious. With a crushing blow, Monkey King defeated the demon, causing its body to writhe, turn grey, and go limp.

Behind the Scenes[]

  • In Journey to the West, it was the senior and ally of the Spider Demons, who used its many eyes to blind his enemies. It once tricked the pilgrims into drinking poisoned tea.[1]

Trivia[]

  • In contrast to the show, the 100-Eyed Demon's centipede form is a transformation of it within the sets, rather than being its ordinary form.[2]
  • During the Season 5 trailer, there was speculation on whether the 100-Eyed Demon, Li Jing, the Tenth King, or the Nine-Headed Demon would be the main antagonist of the season. Due to the 100-Eyed Demon's prominence in the trailer and subtle appearance in the Season 5 poster, many believed it would be the main antagonist.
    • When Season 5 released, the 100-Eyed Demon only served as the antagonist of "Into the Pagoda." Where it revealed the memories of MK's past and his destiny.
  • Its debut in "Into the Pagoda" implied that Monkey King had not previously encountered the 100-Eyed Demon prior to their confinement within the Celestial Pagoda, unlike in Journey to the West. This was evident by the Monkey King's lack of knowledge regarding the 100-Eyed Demon, while Macaque appeared to have gained knowledge of the demon's existence while trapped in the pagoda.
