Demon Bull King[]
Description[]
Past[]
- “A true leader should be big, strong, and handsome, like Azure Lion.”
- ―Demon Bull King
Azure Lion regarded the Demon Bull King as a powerful and formidable warrior, acknowledging his strength. During the feast held by the Brotherhood at Flower Fruit Mountain, they voiced their opinion that the Celestial Realm was in need of new leadership. In agreement with this viewpoint, the Demon Bull King believed that Azure Lion was the most fitting candidate for the position. However, Azure Lion humbly grateful for the recognition but recognized that Monkey King, who united the Brotherhood and inspired them, should be the one to assume the role of leadership.
Roast of the Monkie Kids[]
- “I don't know what happened in the time we were gone, but I've returned to find the mighty have become weak.”
- ―Azure Lion
Hoping to convince the Demon Bull King to join them, Azure Lion came to DBK and his family. But he learned that the Demon Bull King no longer intends to conquer the Celestial Realm. This led to a standdown between Azure Lion and the Demon Bull King as Peng and Yellowtusk pinned down Princess Iron Fan and Red Son. Azure Lion was upset at how DBK had seemingly changed, calling him "tamed" and blaming Princess Iron Fan for it, greatly angering DBK.
Having no other choice, Azure Lion used the Scroll of Memory to imprison the Demon Bull King and Princess Iron Fan.
Jade Emperor[]
Description[]
Past[]
- “Over time, it became clear to me that the Jade Emperor's only concern was keeping his subjects under his boot. He cared not for the plight of those he ruled.”
- ―Azure Lion [src]
Long ago, Azure Lion once served the Jade Emperor as a warrior in the Celestial Realm, hoping to help the mortal realm and its people. But he soon realized how little the Jade Emperor and the others cared for life in the realms. Planning to overthrow the Jade Emperor, Azure Lion joined Monkey King and four other demons to stage a coup in the Celestial Realm, but lost.[1]
The Jade Emperor[]
- “I do not care by which means you meet your demise, old man. Only that the new Jade Emperor is more worthy of the title.”
- ―Azure Lion
As Azure Lion fought his way to the Celestial Palace, he reprimand the Jade Emperor to the Monkie Kids, saying that the Celestial Host only cared about himself and refused to make the world better for its people. He was told by Ne Zha that there's actually a bigger meaning to the title of the Jade Emperor, saying that he can't understand its importance for the world. But the demon didn't believe him. After the Monkie Kids and Ne Zha were forced to retreat, the Azure Lion confronted the Jade Emperor in his throne room, discovering that the Celestial Host was dying as he aged. The Azure Lion, however, didn't care, as he planned on killing the Jade Emperor to take his place.
However, as the Jade Emperor got off of his throne, he made the throne room shake as the Azure Lion stand his ground, being interrogating by the Celestial Host about the demon's coup until he pulled out his sword and prepared to face off against the Azure Lion. The two exchange hits with their swords, but only the Jade Emperor was hit, killing him as the Azure Lion became the new ruler of the Celestial Realm.

After Peng and Yellowtusk were freed from the Scroll of Memory, Azure Lion began to recruit the rest of the Brotherhood for the assault on the Celestial Realm. While the Demon Bull King rejected him, Azure Lion and the others couldn't find Macaque. However, Azure Lion didn't care, believing that even without Macaque, the Brotherhood had already gain enough strength for their coup.

MK[]
Description[]
New Adventures[]
As Azure Lion went to Flower Fruit Mountain to retrieve the Scroll of Memory, he was met with MK, who accused Azure Lion for being the one who imprisoned his friends. Azure Lion explained that he didn't, and told MK that he has heard of him before.
When he told MK and Mei about the scroll, Azure Lion denied MK's suggestion about using the scroll to free his friends. But seeing that MK and Mei's determination, Azure Lion explains what they need to do and asks MK for the scroll back. MK hesitated at first, but soon gave him the scroll.
The Great Tang Man[]
The Azure Lion contacted MK and Mei using astral projection, warning them that the more they alter the scroll's memories, the closer the protective curse will be to catching them. So as a way to prevent that from happening, the Azure Lion gave MK and Mei new clothes to blend in. But before he could finish, he was cut off as MK started undressing in front of him. He soon gave MK a list of instructions for Tang so they can find their friends easier.
Pitiful Creatures[]
After MK undid the Scroll of Memory's protective curse, Azure Lion teleported him and the others out of the scroll, leaving behind Monkey King. As they were all out, Azure Lion refused to say anything to MK when he asked what happened to Monkey King.
The Brotherhood[]
- “I would have done anything in my power to bring them back. But it wasn't in my power, it was in yours. You saved my friends. You returned them to me. And for that, I am eternally grateful.”
- ―Azure Lion
After being exposed to MK about his plans by the Monkie Kids, Azure Lion took him and himself back into the Scroll of Memory so he could explain everything. As he did, Azure Lion told MK about his time as a Celestial Warrior, all the way up to the battle of the Celestial Realm and its aftermath. Once he was done, Azure Lion thanked MK for freeing his sworn brothers.
However, when Pigsy asked if they could free Monkey King, Azure Lion refused, saying that he can't until he kills the Jade Emperor. But Azure Lion's words led MK into fighting him, ending up with the bamboo slip that had Monkey King in be cut in two by Azure Lion, who blamed MK and the others for it. When Peng asked Azure Lion what they should do to MK, Azure Lion tells him to let MK be, considering him to be just a child that was deceived by Monkey King.
The Jade Emperor[]
- “I cannot let anyone stand in my way, MK. Even you”
- ―Azure Lion
As he was about to kill Ne Zha, Azure Lion was soon attacked by MK until Azure Lion knocked him off his magic cloud, unaware that the broken bamboo slip was taken from him. When MK told Azure Lion that he doesn't want to be his enemy, Azure Lion was given no other choice and tried to attack MK and the others with his saber. But MK had Tang teleport him and the others away before they could be hit.
The Plan Man[]
- “It's just, the Monkey King and the boy, they weigh on me.”
- ―Azure Lion
Azure believed that the thought of MK and Monkey King weighed him down, impeding him from reshaping the world.
Rip and Tear[]
- “MK. Stand down. You do not need to share your mentor's fate.”
- ―Azure Lion
Azure and MK engaged in a fierce battle, with Azure wielding the Scroll of Memory as a potent weapon against MK and Monkey King. Despite Azure's efforts to capture them, MK remained defiant, refusing to surrender and further escalating the confrontation between them. In a last-ditch effort, Azure called upon Ink Demons to trap MK, but MK cleverly used his ability to shrink and evade Azure's sword strike. As Monkey King and MK celebrated their triumph, taunting Azure for being defeated by mere monkeys on his first day as the Jade Emperor, Azure's transformation into a colossal figure hinted at his intent to eliminate Monkey King.
However, before Azure could unleash his devastating attack, MK intervened, demonstrating unwavering loyalty to protect Monkey King. Azure expressed disbelief at MK's sacrificial gesture, questioning why MK would risk his life for someone who had caused him such anguish. Despite Azure's attempts to execute his plan, MK unleashed a powerful energy beam, transforming into his Mystic Monkey form and striking Azure Lion, igniting a fierce battle between them. Realizing his inability to match MK's lightning-fast movements, Azure Lion struggled to understand MK's transformation, accusing Monkey King of being the catalyst for MK's shift to a formidable force. Unyielding in his assaults, MK confronted Azure, showing conviction in his identity and exposing Azure's deception. As he issued a challenge for Azure to display his heroism, MK forcefully hurled Azure Lion into Flower Fruit Mountain's core, intensifying the conflict between them.
Better Than We Found It[]
- Azure Lion: “I just wanted to make the world a better place.”
- MK: “You still can. You're the only one who can.”
- —MK and Azure Lion
Azure Lion struggled to harness his overwhelming power, which grew more intense with each passing moment, all while MK observed with a sense of dread. Despite the escalating chaos, Azure harbored an unwavering resolve to rectify the situation, placing the blame squarely on Monkey King for the mayhem unfolding before their eyes. However, as MK ardently maintained Monkey King's innocence, Monkey King questioned how Azure had managed to escape the confines of the Underworld and acquire the Scroll of Memory. Together, they came to the unsettling realization that Azure Lion had been unwittingly manipulated as a pawn in a malevolent scheme to bring about the end of the universe by the true culprit who had stolen the Scroll of Memory.
In a moment of vulnerability, Azure Lion bared his profound anguish, expressing his heartfelt desire to bring about positive change in the world. MK reassured Azure Lion that can still set things right, standing as the universe's sole beacon of salvation. In an act of redemption, Azure Lion embarked on the daunting task of mending the rifts that threatened the fabric of existence, a noble endeavor that gradually eroded his body. Despite MK's desperate call, Monkey King restrained him, recognizing that this was a burden only Azure Lion could bear. And so, with the universe slowly reassembling itself, Azure Lion bestowed a tearful smile upon MK and Monkey King in his final moments, a poignant gesture of gratitude before his inevitable dissolution.

The Jade Emperor[]
- Azure Lion: “What sort of fool would—”
- Mei: “It's this fool, fool!”
- —Mei kicking Azure Lion in the face.
As he continued his attack on the Celestial Realm, Mei arrived with her friends, announcing her entrance by kicking Azure and stealing back the fragment of the Scroll of Memory containing Monkey King. Azure Lion attacked her with the scroll, saying he had already given her the chance to be spared.
Monkey King[]
Description[]
Past[]
- “And then I learned of the Monkey King, whose only allegiance was to his people. He made his land a paradise. I knew here was a warrior with my ideals. A brother. A king.”
- ―Azure Lion
Azure Lion heard of Monkey King, seeing how he treated the monkeys at Flower Fruit Mountain there. Because of how Flower Fruit Mountain was and how everyone was happy under Monkey King's influence, Azure Lion was idolized towards the monkey, hoping to become his sworn brother.[1] One day, Azure Lion had a feast with Monkey King, the Demon Bull King, Macaque, Peng, and Yellowtusk, discussing who should be the new ruler of the Celestial Realm if they were ever to be able to overthrow the Jade Emperor.[2] That was when Azure Lion suggested that the position should go to Monkey King, as he was the reason they were all brought together in the first place.[2]
- “When we triumph in this rebellion, the people will never live in fear. We're about to change everything. It's all because of you, brother!”
- ―Azure Lion
After their failure at the battle at the Celestial Realm, Azure Lion refused to say anything about Monkey King, who was with the celestial beings as the demons accused the monkey of being a traitor.[3] Azure Lion felt betrayed and soon became an enemy of Monkey King, who banished him to the Underworld as the pilgrims were tasked to stop the Brotherhood.[4]
Pitiful Creatures[]
After the curse of the Scroll of Memory was destroyed, Azure Lion went inside the scroll to meet up with Monkey King and the rest. Seeing Monkey King again, Azure Lion replied that indeed it is him and snapped his fingers, taking himself and the Monkie Kids out of the Scroll of Memory as he left Monkey King behind.
The Brotherhood[]
- “We cannot allow anyone to stand in our way. Until this is over, Wukong must remain within the scroll.”
- ―Azure Lion
Azure Lion explained to MK that he intends to free Monkey King from the Scroll of Memory after he kills the Jade Emperor. But as MK attempted to retrieve the bamboo slip that imprisoned Monkey King, Azure Lion swung at him with his saber, accidentally breaking the slip in two. Azure Lion blamed MK, and threatened to destroy the two fragments if the Monkie Kids intervened again.
Roast of the Monkie Kids[]
Azure kept the fragments of the slip containing Monkey King close to him, attaching it to his belt.
The Plan Man[]
- “I will remain distracted from my task as long as he draws breath. I cannot remake this world until he has been removed from it. ”
- ―Azure Lion
As Azure Lion struggled with controlling the Power of the Jade Emperor, he was told by Peng that the Monkey King was alive and had been freed from the scroll. He, in an unhinged manner, decided that the Monkey King's continued existence was the reason he could not control the power and improve the world. He then transported him and his brothers to Flower Fruit Mountain, intent on killing the Monkey King.
Rip and Tear[]
- “He doesn't deserve such loyalty, yet you insist on learning the hard way, just as I did! I should have never trusted the Monkey King! The False Sage, Equal to Nothing!”
- ―Azure Lion
Azure Lion expressed deep regret for ever considering Monkey King as a friend and an inspiration. He had endured constant taunting from him and MK. When Monkey King stole the Scroll of Memory, Azure launched an attack on him. However, MK swiftly intervened and intercepted the strike. Despite Monkey King's pleas, Azure Lion remained resolute in his belief that Monkey King was not deserving of the unwavering devotion bestowed upon him by others. Azure was unable to contain his disappointment and labeled Monkey King as a fraud, someone who held no value in his eyes.
Better Than We Found It[]
- “No, no... I can fix this. I can fix all of this! If it wasn't for Sun Wukong, none of this would— ”
- ―Azure Lion
When Monkey King confronted Azure Lion, he was met with hostility from the demon. Monkey King was able to reason Azure Lion to reconsider engaging in another battle. In a moment of lucidity, Azure Lion was struck with a sense of dread at the potential catastrophic consequences that could arise from their conflict. He acknowledged that his intentions did not include causing such destruction and expressed a belief that he could rectify the situation.
Monkey King asked Azure Lion about his escape from the Underworld and how he had managed to obtain the Scroll of Memory. It became apparent to Monkey King that someone had deliberately granted Azure Lion his freedom and bestowed the scroll upon him, warning Azure Lion about the true intentions of the person. As the universe was restored, Azure Lion began to disintegrate. In his final moments, he bestowed upon Monkey King a tearful smile, acknowledging his fate with a sense of sorrow.
Peng[]
Description[]
Past[]
- “Yes. Huh, Azure would look perfect on the throne!”
- ―Peng
Like Yellowtusk, Azure Lion became great friends with Peng during their time in the Celestial Realm.[5] Because of the Jade Emperor's rule, Azure joined Peng and Yellowtusk as they became sworn brothers with the Demon Bull King, Macaque, and Monkey King, who inspired them to fight together and stand up to the Jade Emperor.[2] Following the events after the Assault on the Celestial Realm, Peng and Yellowtusk were the only ones to side with Azure after the sworn brothers parting ways, but were imprisoned inside the Scroll of Memory by the pilgrims.[1]
New Adventures[]
Azure Lion had to fight an Ink Demon in the form of Peng.
The Brotherhood[]
- “Took you long enough, brother. I feel as though I've been trapped in that cursed thing for 1,000 years.”
- ―Peng
Mei was battled by Azure Lion, who was taken aback when Peng appeared from the Scroll of Memory. Azure Lion pleaded with Peng to spare Tang, emphasizing that Tang was not the Great Monk. However, Peng retorted that Azure had taken a long time to set them free. Following the apparent demise of Monkey King when the plank was severed, Azure Lion implored Peng and Yellowtusk to continue their quest. Curious, Peng inquired about Azure's decision to spare MK, to which Azure Lion clarified that MK had no part in their dispute and was merely a victim of Monkey King's deeds. Encouraging Peng to exhibit empathy, Azure Lion advised him to refrain from harming MK and instead show compassion toward him.

- “You question me as I stand on the brink of this world's salvation?! You would still be locked away. Without me, you! You...”
- ―Azure Lion
After Azure's conquest of the Celestial Realm, Yellowtusk relayed to Peng the dire consequences of Azure's struggles to harness the Power of the Jade Emperor, resulting in the destruction of the universe. Initially, Peng remained apathetic towards the situation, but their perspective shifted when they personally witnessed the toll it was taking on Azure's health. Azure brought up the imprisonment of Peng and Yellowtusk in the Scroll of Memory, but he quickly apologized. Azure mentioned his ongoing anxiety concerning Monkey King and MK, to which Peng advised him to completely disregard them.

The Plan Man[]
- “Azure, you cannot contain this power. As hollow as his rule was, we severely underestimated the Jade Emperor's strength. We cannot right the wrongs of the world if there is no world left to save.”
- ―Yellowtusk
As the universe began to fracture once again, Azure Lion turned to Yellowtusk and the ancestral weapons to aid in its mending. However, Yellowtusk was hesitant to help, believing that their actions of seizing control of the Celestial Realm and overthrowing the Jade Emperor was mistake. Azure Lion remained confident in his newfound strength and dismissed Yellowtusk's concerns about the Celestial Realm's devastation.
Azure Lion entered the dining hall where Yellowtusk and Peng were, and proposing a celebration of their achievements. But Yellowtusk had to warn Azure that his actions were causing the universe to be destroyed due to underestimating the Jade Emperor's power, thus making their plan to create a better world impossible to proceed. Azure vehemently disagreed, reminding Yellowtusk that he had freed him from the Scroll of Memory. However, after his outburst, Azure Lion apologized for his behavior. Despite Yellowtusk's attempts to redirect Azure Lion's focus to more urgent matters, Azure Lion continued to attribute his struggles to the mere existence of Monkey King.
