History[]
In the Celestial Realm[]
Monkey King was given the opportunity to join the Celestial Realm, where he was assigned the lowly position of stable boy. He lashed out at the Jade Emperor, showing his dissatisfaction to being a mere stable boy. The Jade Emperor appointed him as the warden of the Peaches of Immortality. However, instead of fulfilling his duty, Monkey King partook in the divine fruit and stole multiple items from the Celestial Realm in order to gain immortality. As a result, the Jade Emperor ordered Ne Zha to capture Monkey King, but he managed to escape to Flower Fruit Mountain.
During his absence, the Celestial Realm amassed an incredible force, consisting of the entire Celestial Court and Armies to stop the newly founded Brotherhood in its tracks. As the day of reckoning arrived, the two forces would meet face-to-face to decide the fate of the Celestial Realm. As the battle began, Princess Iron Fan, the Celestial Maiden, fell in love with her combatant, Demon Bull King. But even after this, victory was near for the rebellion, until the Jade Emperor appeared himself to put an end to their efforts. He struck down the Monkey King, causing the rest to falter with him. Monkey King was sealed in Five Phases Mountain until his long-awaited master would give him a second chance for redemption.
Peng and Yellowtusk would be released from their imprisonment due to the Azure Lion's intervention and manipulation of the Monkie Kids. They decided to dethrone the Jade Emperor and replace him with Azure Lion. The Brotherhood used the pilgrims' original weapons to transport themselved to the Celestial Realm once more. The sworn brothers were greeted by Ne Zha, Red Son and the Celestial Armies who waited for their arrival. Ne Zha warned the brothers that if they stood in the way of the Celestial Realm, they would kill them for their immoral actions. The brothers launched a fierce assault to the Celestial Realm, trapping Red Son in the Scroll of Memory and forced the armies to retreat. Ne Zha tried to stand his ground to the rebellion, but was no match for their strength. Even when the Monkie Kids assisted the Heavenly Realm, they were forced to retreat. Azure Lion entered the Celestial Palace, where the Jade Emperor waited for their arrival. He questioned the demon's morals, implying that he was a pawn in someone else's game. Azure Lion slew the Jade Emperor, absorbing his power and gaining the title of Jade Emperor.
Azure Lion's rule left the world unstable, cracking under the immense weight of the Jade Emperor's power. The Celestial Realm was in shambles as the residents of heaven were entrapped in the Scroll of Memory. After the Brotherhood's disbandment at the hands of the Monkie Kids, the Pagoda-Wielding General, Li Jing was appointed the responsibility of overseeing the Heavenly Realm. As the new leader of the Celestial Realm, Li Jing was ultimately given ownership of the sealed Power of the Jade Emperor, which he hid it inside the highest level of his pagoda. Li Jing and Ne Zha were summoned to apprehend MK, Macaque and Monkey King for their "crimes." But the monkeys escaped from their incarceration, the Celestial Armies confronted the trio but their powers were unmatched even for the imperial troops. Ne Zha and the troops were posted in the White Tiger and Teal Dragon Festival, Ne Zha noticed the Monkie Kids in the celebration and attempted to attack the heroes. Ne Zha summoned his mech and cornered them, but was unable to hurt them due to their former alliance. Li Jing confronted and imprisoned the Monkie Kids in his pagoda, where he believed the temple would imprison the perpetrators for eternity. After MK's attempt to transform the Power of the Jade Emperor, Li Jing tried to contain MK and the large amounts of energy inside the pagoda, but was unable to, as the pagoda was destroyed. Li Jing summoned his blades and tried to attack MK, who he deemed responsible for the destruction of the universe. But after speaking with MK and his son, he came to accept that this was the only way to repair the Pillar of Heaven and restore the universe. MK then transported the Celestial Host and Ne Zha to the Temple of Nüwa.
In the Mortal Realm[]
During the Journey to the West, the pilgrims would occasionally seek guidance from the local Tudi to ensure Tang Sanzang's safety. In an unspecified point of the pilgrim's adventures, Monkey King sought the bodhisattva, Guanyin to defeat a demon. She used a mystical vase, filled with pure water, to flood an entire mountain range. Ne Zha accompanied the Great Monk to perform a ritual to liberate the Samadhi Fire from the body of the infant Red Son. Ne Zha allied with the Demon Bull King and Monkey King to seperate the fire. During the ritual, Monkey King nearly failed to do his part, resulting in a piece of the flame getting away and nearly killing the group. Ao Lie used himself to block the flame, inadvertantly sealing the fire inside his body. After the ritual, Ne Zha was tasked by Tang Sanzang to conceal his ring for the rest of eternity and to safekeep a map leading to the locations of the rings. Ne Zha threw the ring towards space where it would be discovered by the moon goddess, Chang'e, who used it as a decoration in her kitchen.
In the Underworld[]
Centuries ago, the Court of the Underworld devised a unique form of punishment for offenders through the creation of the Scroll of Memory. This scroll served as a prison to trapped those inside it for their misdeeds, including to record every event that ever occurred in all the realms.[1] Monkey King would be summoned to the Underworld for unknown reasons, where he infiltrated the temple and removed his name out of the Book of the Dead.
The Nine-Headed Demon ultimately ascended to the position of the Tenth King of the Underworld. Nevertheless, the other members of the court remained oblivious to the fact that he was a demon originating from the primordial chaos, intent on hastening the arrival of the next Great Cycle by damaging the Pillar of Heaven to facilitate his return to the chaos beyond.[2] The Kings convened in a meeting to discuss the theft of the Scroll of Memory, the fall of the Heavenly Host, and the subsequent damage to the Pillar of Heaven. The head king warned his fellow rulers that if any of them were responsible for these catastrophic events, they would suffer grave consequences for their actions. He however, acknowledged that if the perpetrator succeeded in the future, their punishment would mean nothing to the destruction the world will undergo.
The Court of the Underworld accused MK, Monkey King and Macaque as the perpetrators responsible for the destruction of the universe. Though the mystic monkeys tried to pledge their innocence, the court deemed them as guilty due to their appearance at every step of the world's descent and Monkey King's past inflitration into the Underworld temple. The monkeys huddled together to formulate an escape plan, but their attempt was futile as the deities expected this move from the Great Sage. Ne Zha and the newly appointed leader of the Celestial Realm, Li Jing apprehended the trio and transported them to Heaven for incarceration.
