This is a list of all running gags and their re-occurrences in Monkie Kid.
Recurring[]
These are recurring gags that happen more frequently and appear numerous times in the show.
- Characters moving with comically static animation.
- Characters often do this when they get blown away in the background by something.
- Objects or people randomly disappearing with a dotted outline of them popping out.
- Characters trying to run or swim through the air.
- MK:
- Missing the most obvious answer, often having others explain it based on the context they already know. (Ex: The Mayor mentions the mortal realm so MK asks him where the mortal realm is, only for Red Son to point out they're already in it.) This is also usually accompanied by his face shrinking.
- Tang:
- Pushing his up glasses.
- His glasses shining.
- Red Son:
- Calling various characters by blunt nicknames (Ex: Dragon girl, Pig man)
- Calling people peasants.
- Getting injured or hurt.
- Mei:
- Snoring whenever she is not directly involved in planning.
- Considering incredible violence.
- Sandy:
- Drinking or talking about tea.
- Mentioning water adventures.
- Saying "Pigsy! Tangy!"
- Trying to fix things with tape or glue.
- Monkey King:
Vehicles randomly breaking down[]

This is a gag where vehicles comically break, usually out of nowhere and mostly accompanied by a fart sound effect.
- Monkie Kid: A Hero is Born - MK's Tuk-tuk breaks down after he gets away from Red Son.
- Sleep Bug - MK's Cloud Bike breaks down after he arrives at the Cloud.
- Sweet 'n' Sour - When MK and Pigsy face the Panda Bot, Pigsy's Food Truck breaks down out of nowhere.
- The First Ring - When Sandy and Mei arrive at the T.E.A., the Dragon Car randomly breaks down.
Tang freaking out[]

This is a gag where Tang freaks out and yells about anything legendary.
- Monkie Kid: A Hero is Born - MK shows Tang the staff.
- Revenge of the Spider Queen
- Red Son mentions the Celestial Realm.
- Pigsy and Tang find Lao Tzu's pills.
- Tang freaks out over various legendary characters and tells him he's their biggest fan, when:
- Dumpling Destruction - Tang finds Monkey Cop action figures in Monkey King's closet.
- 72 Transformations - MK tells everyone that he has learned the power of Transformation.
- On the Run - Monkey King brings up the Samadhi Fire and Tang interrupts him.
- The King, the Prince, and the Shadow - Tang gawks over Ne Zha appearing.
- Court of the Yellow Robed Demon - Tang sees Ao Lie and points him out to Mei.
- Roast of the Monkie Kids - Tang sees the star he received from Master Subodhi.
- The Plan Man - Tang gawks over MK and Mei's new outfits.
"Um... no."[]

This is a gag where someone asks Sandy a question and he pauses before responding with no.
- Bad Weather - Mei shows everyone the Sea-Crate HQ and Tang asks Sandy if he was building a secret base too.
- Coming Home - When Mei's parents come home, MK asks Sandy if he was expecting them to be dragons.
MK falling[]

This is a gag where MK falls down head first and screams. This gag typically reuses animation.
- Bad Weather - MK gets pushed out the Weather Station by the staff, falls and lands head first.
- Skeleton Key - MK jumps around Megapolis with his staff and lands on a random couple sitting on a bench.
- The End is Here! - MK gets ejected from the Monkey Mech by Mei.
- Revenge of the Spider Queen - MK jumps towards the Harbor with his staff.
- The First Ring
- MK grabs Demon Bull King's fire ring and falls down from his fortress before being saved by Mei and Sandy.
- MK gets launched out of the Dragon Car after it hits a rock.
MK's name[]

This is a gag where MK's full name is intentionally hidden from the audience.
- Calabash - MK was about to say his original or full name before the Gold and Silver Demons captured him in the Calabash.
- Impossible Delivery - MK's full employment contract is shown twice. A question mark is put next to his name.
- Sleep Bug - MK types his full name on a computer to sign up for the Cloud's ledger. One of the guardians say that his name is a mouthful, and he replies "No wonder I go by MK, right?" His name and age are also blurred out in his card.

This is a gag in which a character says "Okay, bye!", usually in an extended and exaggerated tone, before exiting the scene.
- Macaque - MK leaves the Shuilian Cave to fight the Smoke Monster.
- Revenge of the Spider Queen - MK exits the Jade Emperor's throne room with his Lion Guardian.
- Sleep Bug - Syntax leaves the Cloud after waking up the Guardians of Knowledge.
- Dumpling Destruction - Monkey King ends his telepathic call with MK. MK also leaves with Tang for Flower Fruit Mountain.
- Minor Scale - Spider Queen exits her lair to go after MK.
- 72 Transformations - MK runs away from Spider Queen and her followers after having trouble with his transformations.
- Great Grand Dragon of the East - Mei locks the Attendant in a closet and steals the clothes from her.
- Smartie Kid - Monkey King meditates to regain his powers and tells MK to wake him up in a hundred years.
- Cooking with Chang'e - MK, Pigsy, and Monkey King get inside the Galactic Explorer and go to space.
- The Great Tang Man - Ghost Grandpa leaves for his next chapter.
"Uh... what?"[]
This is a gag where a character will say a situation specific joke, followed by another character not getting the joke, and the first character giving up on explaining it.
- On the Run - When MK tells Macaque "But hey, you want to make an omelet, sometimes you gotta break a few engines.".
- A Lifetime of Mistakes - When Macaque asks MK if he's ready to become "King of the Monkeys".
