— Ne Zha[src] |
Ne Zha is a heavenly deity from the Celestial Realm, serving as both a member of the Celestial Court and a guardian.
Thousands of years after the first Samadhi Fire ritual, Monkey King attempted to reforge the Samadhi Fire to defeat Lady Bone Demon, but Ne Zha tried to stop him too late due to Macaque's interference. Ne Zha discovered that Mei held one of the four fragments of the Samadhi Fire and teamed up with MK to prevent Monkey King from reaching Lady Bone Demon, but Monkey King was corrupted by her and defeated Ne Zha by encasing him in crystal. Ne Zha was eventually freed during the final battle with Lady Bone Demon and aided the Monkie Kids in destroying her.
Later, Red Son warned Ne Zha about the Brotherhood's plan to attack the Celestial Realm. Despite his best efforts, Ne Zha was overpowered and injured by the Brotherhood, seeking refuge on Flower Fruit Mountain with the Monkie Kids. After the final standoff with the Brotherhood, Ne Zha safeguarded the Power of the Jade Emperor in a seal and vowed to protect it.
Personality
Ne Zha is a stern and responsible celestial. He is occasionally short-tempered, mostly in regards to the Monkey King, though is shown to be understanding and kind to MK. He is often seen being understandably exasperated and annoyed.

Behind the Scenes
- Ne Zha's model sheet depicts the flames on the Fire Wheels as being orange while the show proper makes them pink.
- Ne Zha's design seems to take inspiration from the 1979 Chinese animated film, Nezha Conquers the Dragon King.
- Two shots from this film are directly referenced within a painting in 80023 Monkie Kid's Team Dronecopter.
- A poster of this film is in the background of Season 3's concept art.[4]
- A good portion of Ne Zha's design elements do not come from his Journey to the West incarnation, but from another classic novel, Investiture of the Gods.
- His Taoist title is "Marshal of the Central Altar" (中壇元帥).
- In Journey to the West, Ne Zha fought along side his father the Devaraja Li Jing (the Pagoda-Bearing Heavenly King) against the Monkey King during his havoc in Heaven.[5]
Trivia
- Two different spellings of Ne Zha's name are used. The sets use "Nezha", while the show uses "Ne Zha".
- His name is also occasionally abbreviated as "N.Z".
- Ne Zha's first technical appearance in Monkie Kid was in a Season 2 set. Here, he is depicted younger and with a slightly different design, fighting Ao Bing.
- A sketch of him is also seen in A LEGO Journey to the East.
- He appears with this design again within stickers in the sets 80049 Dragon of the East Palace and 80054 Megapolis City.
- Ne Zha shares many parallels with Red Son:
- They both appear as children in Journey to the West.[9]
- Both wield pyrokinesis and carry spears within mythology.
- They are both quick to annoyance and prone to outbursts.
- In "Embrace Your Destiny", both team up with and emotionally support a member of the Monkie Kids; some of their poses even mirror one another.
