The Brotherhood << Roast of the Monkie Kids >> The Jade Emperor |
(The Brotherhood have broken into Demon Bull King's fortress.)
Demon Bull King: This pursuit has warped your mind, brother. It is the only reason I could imagine that you would have the nerve to assault my home and harm my family!
Azure Lion: I only bear fangs to those that would bear theirs to my own. Your family doesn't understand. We are brothers. It was our dream to conquer the Celestial Realm together!
Demon Bull King: How many times must you be struck down chasing the same foolish dream?
Azure Lion: The Demon Bull King I used to know would not bend so willingly. He was strong! (He casts a vengeful look at Princess Iron Fan.) But it appears the beast has been tamed by the charms of his Celestial Maiden.
Demon Bull King: Do not speak of my wife. Do not even look at her!
Azure Lion: Hmph. I don't know what happened in the time we were gone, but I've returned to find the mighty have become weak! You're a shadow of your former self, brother. Just another beast subservient to the will of the Monkey King. (Demon Bull King lets out a beam of energy at The Brotherhood, freeing his family. Azure Lion lands and summons the Scroll of Memory.) I expected more from you, brother.
Princess Iron Fan: My love. (Azure Lion throws several pieces of the scroll at Demon Bull King, but Princess Iron Fan uses her Magic Fan to blow it away. However, she is consumed by the ink.)
Demon Bull King: Wait! Stop! (He charges forward but is struck down.)
Red Son: Father!
Demon Bull King: Son. (He also disappears into the scroll.)
Red Son: You'll never get away with this! The Celestial Armies will crush you! I'll see to that.
Azure Lion: Good. Why don't you run along and let them know we're coming. (Red Son disappears in a blast of fire.)
Yellowtusk: The Demon Bull King was our last hope of reforging The Brotherhood.
Peng: As for Macaque, well, that coward has tucked himself away, somewhere even I cannot sniff him out.
Azure Lion: No matter. We do not need them. We have power enough to finish this ourselves.
(The Monkie Kids have gathered around in training gi with Master Subodhi.)
Mei: Oh, yeah, baby! I can't wait to learn some kung fu skills! (Master Subdohi bonks her head.) Ow! Hey!
Master Subodhi: Do not bother with what they are doing. You will need to focus on the task ahead of you.
Mei: Uh, yah, that's what I'm doing. Isn't that why we're wasting time here to learn how to stop Azure Lion from taking over the world?!
Tang: Relax, Mei. (He holds up a bowl of noodles.) Here, have some brain food noodles. (Master Subodhi also bonks him on the head.)
Master Subodhi: And you need to stop gorging yourself on our rations!
Tang: I'm sorry. It's just that I'm stressed, okay? Stressed that Azure Lion has probably taken over the Celestial Realm by now, Monkey King is gone, MK is MIA, and I can't use my powers reliably. I just feel so useless. (The others sigh depressingly.)
Master Subodhi: You're too overcome by emotion. Until now, you've overcome adversity through sheer power and luck. That won't be enough this time. Azure Lion, The Golden Winged Peng, and Yellowtusk the Wise. Alone, they can best a thousand-man army. Together, they are nigh unstoppable. I do not make a habit of extending my training to any mere mortals. The very fate of the universe depends on you. But as you are now, it cannot! (To Mei.) You, girl, are too impulsive.
Mei: What?!
Master Subodhi: (To Tang.) You are a groveling coward with scrawny ankles. (To Pigsy.) You pig man, are too stubborn to see the truth.
Pigsy: (Simultaneously.) Hmph.
Master Subodhi: (To Sandy.) And you, blue one... are simply delightful. (He gives him a star.) You might be the most studious of the lot. (The rest of the Monkie Kids glare at his star.)
Mei and Pigsy: What the...
Tang: I want that.
Master Subodhi: You all have the potential for such unimaginable power. The only ones standing in the way are yourselves. (The Monkie Kids look at one another.)
(In Flower Fruit Mountain, MK gazes out at the horizon when he sees a little monkey approach him.)
MK: Hey, little guy. Where are your friends?
(He suddenly remembers and goes back to looking at the horizon again. The monkey curls up beside him.)
(Master Subodhi has the other Monkie Kids in a fighting stance.)
Master Subodhi: Right now, you're like a jagged stone. Once I'm done with you, you'll be worn down, chiseled, and refined. Except you, Sandy. (He gives him another star.) You're chiseled enough. (Sandy laughs as the other Monkie Kids cry and glare at him.)
(Tang is taken to a library.)
Tang: I know, my issue is my self-confidence.
Master Subodhi: Wrong! It's your complete lack of skill.
Tang: Wha— Hey!
Master Subodhi: By a stroke of luck, you've tapped into your powers before and have managed great feats. However, this is not reliable. You're lazy. You whine, complain, and you do not practice.
Tang: Uh could we go back to my positive qualities maybe?
Master Subodhi: The Great Monk Tang Sanzang was studious, a master of the mystical arts. Although rigid, humorless, and at times, cold, it was this disconnect with others that allowed him to focus on his studies. To learn all there was to learn without distraction by "trivial" things, such as friendship.
Tang: But what's the point of having all this power if I don't use it to help my friends?
Master Subodhi: Like you and your companions, the original pilgrims were changed by their journey. It took the monk a long time to learn that friendship has its own power too, something you have already learned. (He gives Tang a star, which he delightedly shrieks at.) To aspire to his level of skill, you must study. You can no longer rely on sheer dumb luck and crammin', cram boy.
(Master Subodhi attends to Mei in the training grounds, who eventually takes out all his students.)
Master Subodhi: Ao Lie, the White Horse Dragon, was an exceptionally powerful being. But he was timid and nervous, lacking your confidence and borderline arrogance.
Mei: Hey! I'll show you arrogant, you—
Master Subodhi: Proving my point. As someone who once wielded the Samadhi Fire, I thought you would know that the flame that lights a candle is also capable of igniting a forest fire. You're capable of much more if only you would slow down and think. Ao Lie knew when to take action and when to action caution, and by doing so, could summon tremendous power.
Mei: Yeah, like I said, kinda learned all that already, so...
Master Subodhi: Huh! We will see. (He turns to leave.)
Mei: Yo, what about my star?
Master Subodhi: When you've earned it.
(Mei seethes and unleashes her rage on the training equipment.)
(Master Subodhi hangs out with Sandy next.)
Master Subodhi: You have nothing more to learn, my hilariously blue student. Another star for you! (He puts it on Sandy's nose.)
Sandy: Oh, thank you, wise master.
Master Subodhi: But you're far too nice for your own good.
Sandy: Uh-huh. You noticed.
(Master Subodhi finally approaches Pigsy.)
Pigsy: Look, if you're here to teach me some magic tricks or whatever, you can just forget about it, alright?
Master Subodhi: Zhu Bajie was a stubborn one too.
Pigsy: Oh, what, you think we're the same, just 'cause we're pigs, huh? Bet you think I'm just a disgusting little monster too.
Master Subodhi: Zhu Bajie had his vices. However, like all the companions, he grew up. He struggled the most, but he worked hard, not unlike yourself. Although, he didn't start out this way, in time, he became a deeply caring and protective creature. And a powerful ally. One of the best, in fact. The heart you have in abundance, the power, (He puts a star on him.) why, you've barely scratched the surface of your potential, and that's saying something. (Mei has seen what happened and strikes her sword into the dummy.) By breaking these shackles you have imposed upon yourselves, you will become truly unstoppable warriors. Which is what the universe is going to need sooner than we might hope.
(Back at Flower Fruit Mountain, MK and his monkey companion have resorted to eating many bananas.)
MK: (He sighs.) Do you think Monkey King ever felt like this? Maybe that's why he stayed on this mountain, just having a good time with you guys. You know, 'cause... 'cause he knew he'd be out of the way (The monkey grabs and finishes his banana.) where he couldn't hurt anyone he cared about.
Macaque: Or he was doing his usual Wukong thing and being a lazy, peach-eating idiot, ignoring all the world's problems.
MK: (He tries to use his monkey form.) Stop! If you're just here to mess with me, then... (He gives up, looking back out to vast space again.) Go for it, guy. I don't care anymore.
Macaque: You know, it's no fun when you say it out loud. Nice tail, by the way. That's new. (MK looks down miserably.) Come on, Misery Kid. I got something to show you.
(Azure Lion is looking out at the destruction of Camel Ridge.)
Peng: What a dump. Can't wait to say goodbye to this dirt pile. Yellowtusk, how are we traveling, darling?
Yellowtusk: We are ready. (They each use one of the weapons and teleport to the Celestial Realm, where the Celestial Armies are waiting for them.)
Ne Zha: Azure Lion. I have no idea how it is you come to stand here once more, but you are not welcome in the Celestial Realm. Leave this place, or we will be forced to cut you down again. But this time, there won't be any coming back!
Azure Lion: You can try and stop us, Lotus Prince, but I can assure you the Jade Emperor's tyrannical rule ends today.
Ne Zha: Then so be it!
(The battle begins as they launch at one another.)
