The Storm Within is the fourth episode of Season 5 and the fifty-second episode overall of Monkie Kid.
Synopsis[]
Short DescriptionSandy demands a one-on-one training session with Monkie Kid. To his dismay, Sandy's technique is not combat but meditation.[1] |
Plot[]
The Monkie Kids encountered a divergence in the road, causing MK to feel uncertain about which direction to choose. Sandy observed the dilemma, noticing the pressure the others were putting on MK to make a decision. MK mentioned how locating the red Color Stone had been relatively simple in the past, usually relying on maps or compasses to find artifacts despite needing them to find the artifact they're looking dfor. Pigsy expressed skepticism, suggesting that MK's perception might have been influenced by a storytelling course. Mei reassured MK, saying that they're figuring it out as they go. However, MK pointed out the challenge of not knowing the locations of the other Color Stones or what steps to take once they found them. Despite the doubts, Mei, Pigsy, and Tang persisted in pressuring MK, insisting that they could succeed. Sandy intervened, agreeing with MK's concerns and suggesting that they split into four groups to search for clues. The groups divided, with Mei using her plane, Monkey King employing his magic cloud, and Pigsy and Tang operating the excavator. Meanwhile, MK, Sandy, and Mo remained behind, with Sandy assigning Mo the task of guarding the Team Power Truck while he trained MK.
MK felt frustrated with the training he was receiving from Sandy. He thought that meditating was boring and not something special. Sandy, on the other hand, believed that MK needed this training. MK argued that meditating was not the solution, and that they needed to find the Color Stones to save the universe from destruction. He tried to take action, but Sandy warned him that the burden was too heavy for him to carry alone. Sandy pointed out that there were some things MK couldn't escape from, despite his efforts to solve his problems. MK tried to force a smile, pretending that he had resolved his issues, but Sandy knew that MK was still struggling. He emphasized the importance of self-reflection and living in the present moment. However, MK was not fully committed to meditating with Sandy, as he was preoccupied with thoughts of finding the Color Stones. During his meditation, MK had a vision of his monkey form, which made him believe that they should stop meditating altogether. Sandy recognized MK's fear and encouraged him to gather his courage and face his fears. Suddenly, a snake attacked MK, but then quickly disappeared. Despite Sandy's objections, MK decided to follow the snake.
The two followed the snake as it slithered towards a hidden passageway, leading them to a secret location. Upon reaching the top of a hill, the snake suddenly transformed into stone, surprising MK. MK attempted to use the Golden Staff to strike the snake, but then noticed the blue Color Stone. MK remembered the advice given by Sandy, claiming that it had indeed been valuable. However, their attention was drawn to the fact that the hill was actually the shell of the Black Tortoise. The Black Tortoise declared that they could only take the stone if they passed a trial, catching Sandy off guard by claiming they were unworthy until then. MK believed that possessing the red Color Stone made him worthy, but the Black Tortoise insisted that they needed to prove their mastery of their abilities than determination. Despite feeling prepared for the trial, MK was disappointed to learn that it involved meditation. The Black Tortoise warned that if MK couldn't control the turmoil in his heart, it would have dire consequences, with Sandy bearing the brunt of the pain. As MK attempted to meditate, he found himself recalling past encounters with a corrupted Monkey King, Lady Bone Demon, and Azure Lion. During his meditation, a manifestation of his monkey form appeared, representing the chaos he was associated with. The manifestation taunted MK, suggesting that he enjoyed his destructive nature as it made him powerful. Breaking out of his meditation, MK witnessed the snake tightening its grip on Sandy, prompting him to tap into his monkey form and demand the Black Tortoise release him. Sandy reminded MK that everyone has a side they may not like, but it's still a part of who they are. Encouraging MK to believe in himself and take things one step at a time, Sandy emphasized the importance of embracing all aspects of oneself.
MK meditates once more, facing his monkey form. He acknowledges that the future is uncertain, but he has the power to decide his own path. Despite the monkey form representing rage and fear, MK recognizes it as a part of himself, stemming from his desire to protect his friends. The manifestation reacts, but MK stands firm, stating that he cannot simply banish his fears. He vows to persevere, embracing each moment as it comes and refusing to surrender to his inner struggles. After MK successfully completed the trial, the Black Tortoise released Sandy, who then hugged MK. Sandy, utilizing his powers, challenged the Black Tortoise, asking if MK was deserving of it now. The Black Tortoise confirmed that MK was indeed worthy, presenting him with the blue Color Stone before fading away.
Upon returning to the truck, Sandy criticized the Black Tortoise's meditation method, claiming it wasn't effective. Concerned about Sandy's stress, MK inquired about his well-being, since Sandy had once struggled with anger issues. Sandy confessed to his past anger problems and how he had learned to prioritize and manage his emotions. Proud of Mo for keeping the truck safe, Sandy's pride was short-lived as Mei accidentally crashed her plane into the Team Power Truck, causing the wheels to detach. Mei shared a clue about the other Color Stones she had found, while Sandy was upset about the damage to his truck, attempting to stay present in the moment.
