Short Description

MK has got a bad case of the hiccups that cause giant earthquakes. The only cure is a tea that only Sandy can procure from a dangerous location.[1]

Extended

MK has got a bad case of the hiccups. Real bad. Because of his powers, every time he hiccups it causes a giant earthquake! There's only one thing that can cure it, a special tea made from a flower that only Sandy can procure from a dangerous location. While he attempts to find the leaf, one of Spider Queen's henchmen - Hunter Spider, is in pursuit, trying to steal the flower for his master.[2]

Plot[]

After eating 500 cursed beef balls from a competitive eating contest, MK began to have hiccups that caused strong earthquakes that affected Megapolis. Pigsy was frustrated by MK's reckless behavior, calling it his most thoughtless adventure setup yet. Mei tried to cure his hiccups but was unsuccessful. She then turned to Tang, hoping he had ancient techniques to counter food poisoning curses. Sandy suggested a special tea made from the crimson jimson weed, which was said to have control over life and death. Sandy initially declined to retrieve it, but Tang reminded him that MK's life was at stake, which convinced Sandy to go. Tang revealed that the crimson jimson weed only bloomed during a crimson moon, which happened to be that very night.Sandy rushed off to retrieve the flower, remarking on the convenient timing of the situation.

Trivia[]

  • This is the eighth episode to be released before it reaches China.
  • This episode was adapted into a comic book in Monkie Kid Comic Story 9.
  • In the opening scene, Mei, trying to scare MK, briefly appears dressed as jiangshi, also known as a Chinese hopping zombie or vampire.
  • In one of Sandy's flashbacks, Zhu Bajie is briefly seen. This serves as a foreshadowing for "The King, the Prince, and the Shadow", which indicated that the Monkie Kids, except for MK, have memories of the pilgrims, as they all felt as though they have been to the mystic mountain before, just like the pilgrims did, even though they had not until that episode.

Censorship[]

  • Some scenes during the beginning of the episode were zoomed in on international Cartoon Network airings (such as the scene with MK's first hiccups, MK and Mei annoying Tang, and Sandy leaving the restaurant). However, these edits don't appear on Cartoon Network Southeastern Europe.[3]
  • The scene where Mei cries for MK and Pigsy yells, "The kid ain't dyin', you morons!" was cut from international Cartoon Network airings.
    • When aired on Cartoon Network Southeastern Europe, the scene was kept, but the phrase "you morons" was only cut out.
